Family Driving Lessons Bethlehem Tauranga Mt Maunganui

Which is better? Driving lessons with parents or
lessons with a Driving Instructor?

You are likely to drive far more with your parents/guardians than with a qualified driving instructor. The practice you get with your parents is invaluable. Can you pass the Test without any professional lessons? Maybe. Maybe not. Numerous times I have had lessons with someone who has just failed their test and hadn't had any lessons beforehand. When asked why they failed they often shrug and mumble ... "Not sure really. The testing officer said that I was an ok driver but just missed checking my blindspots or didn't signal correctly etc."  So we have a drive around and sure enough - they are decent drivers. Control is good. Observation ok. Curteous. Careful. Watchful. But there is no way that they can pass a test because they often lack fundamental road code knowledge. Why? Because their parents lack the same information. Nobody is at fault. It just happens. Don't let it happen to you.

Picture below is my family getting together last Christmas. Our two boys attended Bellevue Primary, Otumoetai Intermediate and Tauranga Boys. Funny enough when the boys turned 15 (you could get your Learners at 15 back then) and wanted to start driving it was primarily their Mother who did the teaching. Neither boy had any paid lessons and both passed their Restricted first go. But that was awhile back before they made the tests harder.

Here's some info that you might want to think about written by an Auckland Instructors - A professional driving instructor does not know you personally, so they do not have a personal relationship with you that might get in the way of imparting all of the driving knowledge that you require. A parent can pass on some of their bad driving habits. Parents can tend to overreact or become stressed when in the car with their trainee child. A driving instructor's vehicle is required to be completely safe and road-worthy while a parent may not always fully inspect their vehicle before each outing. Professional drivers must pass a series of exams in order to be qualified to instruct other people how to drive. Professional instructors teach defensive driving skills and many other important skills that are necessary to help a young driver predict what lies ahead and how they can avoid a collision. They have the experience in imparting this knowledge.
